Custom RF Chain Design

Once the customer requirements, such as frequency, G/T, EIRP are defined, our RF design usually begins with determining the optimal antenna size and RF cascade. The main design goal is always to produce high performance and cost effective systems. Our own designs, along with our ever expanding list of suppliers of RF equipment allow us to produce the most enhanced configurations, tailored to our customers’ requirements.

In the case where multiple frequency bands are required on the same Antenna system, we offer a variety of solutions, such as combined frequency feeds (S&X, S&K, S&Ka, X&Ka band, etc.) or combined focus systems through a frequency selective surface (FSS) subreflector (i.e. S band at prime focus with X band at Cassegrain focus).

In any multi-band system we design, we strive for minimal impact on performance at each band. As is expected, all systems are available with circular and linear polarization with the option of custom adaption. The systems are designed with focus on minimal losses between the feed and LNA/LNB and HPA in order to achieve optimal receive and transmit performance for a given reflector size.

Our highly efficient reflector and RF feed designs and manufacturing techniques offer excellent efficiencies for all Antenna configurations:

• Cassegrain Illumination Efficiency: 85% typ.
• Prime Focus Illumination Efficiency: 69% typ.
• Combined: Prime Focus 64% typ., Cassegrain 85% typ.

Our most used feed horn is specifically designed for our sub-reflector and reflector, a signature Comtech design which produces exceptional performance and very precise control of the lobe shape. In addition to standard single/multi band feeds, Comtech provide a set of interchangeable feed towers, each with dedicated frequency bands. This is to enable the use of more than one band on the same system, where they all would require being positioned at Cassegrain focus (such as Ka and Ku bands).
